Bleeding Hearts are So Neat

 Last year I planted some Bleeding Hearts in front of my porch. They come in some different varieties, so I couldn't resist adding one of my favorites. They've been growing like crazy! Now that spring has sprung, I'm so excited to see how they look this year! They're such neat and interesting plants to observe. They have a unique, romantic, and sweet look, and they're definitely on my list of all-time favorite plants.

Hellebores are So Neat and Interesting

 Hellebores are so neat after working with some of them at some of my client's houses that have them in their landscaping. They do really well in shade. I do want to let you know, if you are not familiar with hellebores, that one of the varieties has an odor. And I don't mean that the odor is unpleasant. I just mean that one variety of hellebore does emit an odor.

Is their plant folklore out their?

 I had no idea there was so much interesting folklore out there concerning the plants we eat. It is also neat that there is folklore for all of the various cultures on the planet. I can't help but wonder if some of these folklore stories are meant to be taken literally. For example, mugwort has two interesting stories associated with it. One story says that burning mugwort drives away bad dreams, but another story says drinking mugwort tea lets witches turn into animals. Do you think this means the stories might be true? Or do you think they are just stories? What about all the other plant stories? Do you think they are true too? I'm really enjoying the folklore I'm learning about, so I would love to hear your thoughts. What do you think?. 

Phragmites are Invasive, Research Share

 Phragmites Australis is an interesting plant to research. It’s a tall, reed-like grass species, and it looks very cool. It’s growing in some places in the USA, but it’s considered to be invasive, so it’s taking over native plants. This is problematic for a number of reasons. This plant is a tall, weedy grass that is invasive in the USA. This species is spread in a multitude of ways, which is one of the big problems. It spreads by seeds, by rhizomes (like bamboo), and by fragments. Because of this, it’s important to watch out for it. I’m curious about how and why this species has grown so fast. It looks like it’s spreading to the rest of the states, so we should pay close attention to it. 

Rock Gardens

Rock gardens are a lot of fun, and there are many ways to make one. Rock gardens are an interesting part of the landscape design idea arsenal because there are many different ways to create them. There are a lot of cool plants and features you can use. Rock gardens can fit into any design that a landscape designer dreams up. For example, you can create a rock garden that looks like a waterfall. You can also create one that includes small trees and a pond. The possibilities are endless!

Parasitic Plants are Taking over the Native Plants

There are a lot of parasitic plants. They are beautiful. Unfortunately, they are overtaking the native plants, and they are choking them out in their natural habitat. This is why we must pay close attention to what is happening to our beloved natural areas.

Clammyweed Plant Research Share

 Clammyweed is such an interesting plant out in nature. The flowers are so pretty and interesting, too. I'm surprised how pretty they are, considering how interesting the plant is. You can tell the clammyweed is really interesting from the name. Do you know the technical name of this plant?

Aloe Research Share Beautiful and Pretty Plant

 I recently did some research on Aloe and I found out a lot of amazing stuff about it. I learned that it comes in lots of different varieties. Unfortunately, the only color it comes in is green. I thought it would be interesting if it came in different colors, and I can't say I'd be surprised if it does come in more colors than green in some place or another, but right now it's just green. I guess green doesn't look half bad, so it is what it is.

Eco-Friendly Gardening

With everything going on today, it's more important than ever to be mindful of how we impact the environment. Luckily, there are easy changes we can make to our everyday lives to reduce our carbon footprint and help protect our planet. One effective change you can make is in your yard and garden. One of the most impactful ways to help the environment is to take care of your garden or yard in an eco-friendly way. This can be done by using eco-friendly methods for watering, weeding, and fertilizing, as well as by planting native plants instead of foreign plants. Native plants are well-suited to your area, so they don't need as many resources to thrive. This can save you money and energy because you don't need to fertilize or use harsh chemicals on them. Furthermore, they normally require less water than non-native plants. As a result, you save water, protect the environment, and save money. What's not to love? There are many other ways to care for your yard without harming the environment. For example, you can avoid using gas-powered lawn care equipment or avoid chemical-intensive herbicides and pesticides. By doing so, you protect the soil and the insects that live in it. Overall, the best way to make your garden eco-friendly is to simply have native plants. Not only is it better for the environment and your wallet, but it is also the easiest way to make a positive change. It might feel small, but every little change helps, and you'll be surprised at the impact you can make with these small adjustments.

Dog Sniff Plant Disease Article Share

I read an article recently that told about how dogs are being trained to sniff out plant diseases. The article described how they can be trained to detect the smell of plant pathogens. This was an eye-opening article for me, as I love to garden, and I really care for dogs.
